I thought I did well in the tournament, but I only placed 5th out of 8 players.

I got a lucky Big Blind special early where I flopped top 2 pair, and doubled up against my opponent who shoved with top pair and a King kicker.

Later on I flopped top pair against a short stack and put him all in on the flop. He called with bottom pair and a gutshot draw, and he rivered his straight! I lost about 1/3 of my chips here. "That's Poker" right?

With the blinds getting high, it was folded around to me on the button. I raised with KJ off suit, the short stack in the SB pushed all and I insta-called with at least 20:1 pot odds. He had my hand dominated with KQ off suit. I was hoping it was my turn to suck out (this was the same guy who rivered a straight on me), but his Queen kicker held. I liked my play here - King Jack is pretty strong when you're 5 handed and only up against 2 random hands in the blinds...just bad timing I guess.

I was really short in the BB and went all in blind when I was already getting about 6:1 pot odds. UTG raised with A8 off and I was lucky enough to have AJ which held!

I was card dead for a while, short again, and I finally picked up KQ off suit. I pushed and I got one caller with 55, they held and I was done.

The ring game went better. I'm starting to like cash games more - I'm finding the "luck" factor of poker tournaments a little frustrating these days. I ended up making a profit of 32 Big Blinds per hour! I won't tell you how small the BB was :)
