My first home game of 2007 went great!
Well...not for me particularly, but it was nice to have a full table and good mix of players.
I was pretty much card dead in the Hold'em tourney. I tried to make a couple of moves and continuation bets to pick up pots, but I kept running into hands. Eventually I got short stacked, pushed all in with 55 one off the cut-off, and got called by two players: 77 and KK. Bad luck.
Erik went on a rush early on in the tourney and took a big chip lead, and Tim played solid and patient. The both made it to heads up, Erik with a slight chip lead, and Tim got lucky when he needed to to take first place.
After these results, Erik knocked me out of first place on our league's leader board! He is definately the most improved player of all of us over the last couple of years. In our league's first season he really sucked. Since then he took first place in another poker league, and now he's 5 points ahead of me in ours...I have some catching up to do!
After the tournament, we started up at .25/.25 No Limit Holdem cash game. John was the big winner for this. He went on a huge rush and hit at least 5 straights! I made about 18 big bets per hour, and we played for 3 hours (about $14).
I know some of you may think "big deal $14 is nothing," but you shouldn't look at it this way! If I was playing 1/2 NL at the casino, I would have made $36 per hour which is pretty good. I always say that the amount of money you are playing for shouldn't make a difference - you should always play the same style of game (as long as it's within acceptable limits of your bankroll of course).
My next home poker game will be on the Easter long weekend...hopefully I'll be at the top of the leader board after that :)
